When you’ll be laying concrete everywhere in or perhaps around the house you must, just as everything you are doing, have a plan. What’s the project likely to be, exactly where should it be, what sort of concrete will probably be utilised, simply how much do you comprehend in relation to concrete? Primary the plan along with the way it might require needs to be plainly drawen out. In the event it is going to be a patio did you measure the region and put a plan for your shape? In the event that it will be sidewalks are you aware the length you want them to be and just how significant each part of the actual sidewalk shall be? Will you obtain pre mixed concrete or are you going to obtain ready mixed concrete? Have you learnt up concerning concrete so you may be informed about how it is mixed, put and cured? All of these queries must have your solutions prepared.

Laying concrete seriously isn’t always easy. The very first thing you will need to do, after you have made the decision what it’s you’re likely to produce and where it will likely be, should be to produce a wooden format surrounding the area possessing the planks in position using wooden levels. Following that, boost the wooden shape with a mesh that can be placed up by means of either big stones or bricks. Keep your mesh off the ground. Figure out what kind of concrete you might utilize. If you ever get it premixed make sure you be ready to pour it the moment the truck reaches its destination. Make sure you wet the ground and forms down before you fill the concrete for home. When you have poured your concrete feel free to use a 2×4 in order to level this. To assist the concrete expand and contract make use of contraction joints every 4 feet. It’s going to take the concrete at the least 3 days to be able to firm up and dry out so it need to be casually misted every day. You’ll probably decide to apply a broom to the soaked concrete to generate a style that will cause the concrete easy to step upon throughout stormy or snowy times

We are a team of logistics professionals who provide a full turnkey solution for any organisation that needs to relocate a factory, relocate a warehouse or simply reconfigure an existing operation or layout within tight time frames.

Having undertaken significant projects in Asia and Australia, our detailed approach in managing your warehouse relocation and adherence to our clients deadlines ensures a quality service is delivered with minimal disruption to your business operation.

Our Approach

It is imperative that we invest our time in understanding the exact client requirements prior to the supply chain project by undertaking a detailed assessment of the site(s), which includes machinery, storage equipment, materials handling requirements, services, utilities, stock movement, order management, crewing, transportation and special instructions/requirements specific to the business.

Planning Phase

Based on our experience, the planning phase of your warehouse relocation or factory relocation is the most critical phase of any relocation project.

The planning phase must be undertaken with the highest attention to detail by methodically following a structured process that incorporates all elements of the assessment mentioned above resulting in a project plan which includes, constraints, critical path, milestones and costing.

Execution Phase

We find that failure to plan effectively during the planning phase does have an adverse effect on the overall project, especially during the execution phase. Symptoms being: deadlines tend to slip, resource utilisation falls, frustration levels increase and costs escalate out of control because of a failure to plan effectively.

As every project will have issues that arise due to unforeseen circumstances, it is important to manage the process and address these issues by identifying various alternatives and making prompt decisions to get the project back on track.

We are proactive in our approach and sometimes resolve these unforeseen issues by paying more to resolve them in order to keep the overall project cost on track.

Our communication plan is dynamic as any changes or deviation from the original plan are communicated regularly to all stakeholders, which reinforces their commitment to the original goal. This change management approach cannot be underestimated as it has the potential to have a significant impact on the success of your project, if not managed or executed effectively in a timely manner.

Continuous Improvement

By reviewing the operation, we are able to identify improvement opportunities that will be classed as “Quick Wins” and “Long Term Wins”.

Each initiative will be planned outlining the task, responsibility, time-frame and cost savings. Resources will be balanced within an organisation to ensure that each project will have a clear mandate and delivered within an 8 week cycle.

The long term projects will require more attention to scope and requirements development as a review of the micro aspects will require an evaluation period prior to commencement.

We suggest that a centralised approach to project delivery is adopted by establishing a project management office which is administered by your organisation.

For one reason or another, brick walls need to be repaired, replaced or extended every so often. Of course, you want to use exactly the same type and style of bricks that were used in the original structure, but this is easier said than done.

There are a couple of reasons why the original type and style of brick used may no longer be available. One reason is that the clay deposit that was used for the original bricks may have been depleted. The second reason is that the brick company that you dealt with before may no longer be in business, or may have discontinued that line of bricks. Though you may think that bricks have little style to them, it is actually quite common for subtle, fashionable changes to be made to them over time.

It is possible that you may get lucky and find perfectly matching bricks at your local brick merchant. However, for the most part, the solution is not so easy to come by. Hopefully, one day there will be a national database of brick colors and textures but, for the time being there is not, so you will have to do some investigative work.

The first thing that you should do is take some high resolution pictures of the original bricks, as matching from memory is impossible. Mail these photographs to brick distributors who will be more than happy to help you if they can. Give them as much detail as you can about the originals, such as the year they were bought, where they were bought from, dimensions, etc.

If perfect brick matching is not an option, then a color match is the next best thing. Whatever, a brick salesman says to the contrary, this is the best way forward. It might take a little bit of looking around, but finding an identical color match is definitely possible. Always opt for color matches over texture matches. You should not ignore texture altogether, but bear in mind that differences in brick textures cannot be seen from a distance. Color differences in bricks can clearly be seen from any distance.

Once you have found some potential matches, get some samples and take them back to your home for a proper evaluation. You need to compare the bricks from different distances. Look up close, then from 10 feet away, and then from the opposite side of the road. Do not make the final decision on yourself - ask for a second opinion from a family member or neighbor.

As a final point, do not forget about also matching the mortar. Examine the sand particles in the existing mortar; paying attention to the size and color of them. Matching the mortar is not to difficult, but will probably require you to prematurely age the new mortar. You can do this with a brick cleaning chemical.

Non-Destructive Tests on Metals

Non Destructive Testing methods include radiography, ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, eddy current testing and dye penetrant testing. These tests enable the engineer to decide whether a part is likely to be reliable in the service.

Radiography

Radiography is usually confined to the testing of welds in pressure vessels such as starting air reservoirs. Large reservoirs for high pressure use may require only spot tests to be taken. X-rays or gamma rays are used to expose the emulsion of the radiographic film. Welding defects give a greater exposure of the film and show as darker areas. The use of radiographic equipment and interpretation of he negative requires considerable training and skill.

Ultrasonic Testing

Ultrasonic testing is performed by equipment that transmits high frequency vibrations through the materials to be tested. The vibrations are reflected back from the opposite surface or from any discontinuity in the material. Ultrasonic methods can be used to measure the thickness of materials or to detect internal or surface defects in welds, castings or forgings, either during manufacture or when in service. Defects are shown as extra pulses to the transmitted and reflected pulses, on a cathode ray oscilloscope.

Magnetic Particle Testing

Magnetic particle testing method can be used for detecting defects and near surface defects in materials that can be magnetized. When a magnetic field is induced in the part to be tested, defects allow a flux leakage to occur. This causes the magnetic particles used in the test to congregate at the leakage, indicating the location of the defect.

Magnetic particle testing is used mainly for checking the condition of the engine parts and shafting, which are liable to fatigue failure. The use of this type of test equipment requires skill and experiences.

Eddy Current Testing

Eddy current testing methods are used mainly in production line work during the manufacture of small ferrous material parts for use in either small or large engines. A coil is used in the tester, any defects present causing a change in the impedance of the coil. The change of impedance is utilized in various ways to call attention to the presence of a defect.

Dye-Penetrant Test

This is one of the common non destructive test conducted on metals. Dye penetrant tests are used to detect surface defects such a fatigue cracks in crankshaft and screw shafts. The part to be tested is thoroughly cleaned, and a dry penetrant is sprayed on the cleaned area. If any surface defect is present, capillary attraction draws the dye into the cracks. The dye is cleaned off (but remains in the crack) and absorbent or developer material is spray coated on the test area. The absorbent draws out the penetrant dye from the crack, showing a coloured line which indicates the presence and location of the defect.

For many companies, their main interaction with customers is through an intermediary. This intermediary or ?channel? may be a retailer, dealer, agent/rep, distributor, integrator, independent catalog or web-based reseller.

If this situation describes your company?s ?go-to-market? strategy, then you are acutely aware of the critical and complex nature of building strong channel relationships. Channel Marketing

Many companies, especially smaller firms, manage their channel relationships on an ad hoc, informal basis. To more effectively reach end users, companies should develop a more formal, strategic approach to managing channel partnerships. Conducting a ?channel audit? might be a good first step.

What?s wrong with a ?seat-of-the-pants? approach to working with resellers?

Obviously, a strong personal relationship with the owner, salespeople and support people at your resellers is a good starting point. However, the nature of the overall relationship is too complex to simply rely on spur-of-the-moment decision-making.

Also, channels are consolidating. Many companies now sell through large resellers such as Home Depot or Wal-Mart on the consumer/contractor side; big wholesalers such as Ingram or Tech Data in the technology market; or large distributors such as Motion Industries, Ferguson or W.W. Grainger in the industrial markets. These huge resellers expect formal, consistent programs.

What are some of the major challenges in working with intermediaries?

First, good channel partners can bring significant market coverage at a relatively low cost, especially when selling to consumers or small and mid-sized business customers. Many channels also add technical or logistics skills beyond the suppliers? capabilities.

On the flip side, channels can pose several challenges. Simply communicating with so many people can be a problem. Gaining ?mindshare? among these independent resellers is another challenge. If you do not establish clear roles and a well-reasoned compensation structure, destructive conflict between channels may occur.

What is a channel audit and how can it help? Multi-channel Audit

Many companies know their channel sales are below goal or that intermediaries are complaining about seemingly random problems. However, unless someone undertakes a structured, objective analysis, the company may never uncover the root cause of their channel woes. We developed a multi-channel sales and distribution audit that looks at over 30 elements of the supplier/channel relationship.

We gather information in advance and conduct interviews of key people involved with channels. Then, we facilitate a face to face review with management, including channel strategy, channel sales, channel marketing, organizational and financial aspects of their channel program.

Typically the CEO, the VP of Sales, the VP of Marketing and one or two key channel sales and marketing managers will attend.

What is the typical output of a channel audit?

At the end of the process, we provide the client with a report card on each element of their channel program. We rate the importance of each element of the channel strategy and programs.

Our commentary will pinpoint specific issues such as understaffing a particular marketing function, lack of training for channel sales people or over-supporting under-performing resellers. At a basic level, a channel audit provides a company with a measurable set of ?next steps.?

After undertaking an audit what are some of the typical steps a company takes?

One of the common things we find is suppliers who are overpaying their resellers (or some of their resellers) relative to the functions performed by the reseller. So, these companies will often revise their channel compensation programs with an emphasis on function-based, rather than purely volume-based criteria.

Also, the channel audit often highlights companies trying to sell new products or move into new markets by relying on their traditional channel partners. Frequently, companies need to sign up new types of partners to open up growth areas. Based on this audit finding, many clients recruit new types of channels that offer better growth opportunities. Channel Workshops

Companies that have already pursued an aggressive growth strategy can run into various types of channel conflicts, as I mentioned earlier. The channel audit will uncover actual and potential channel conflicts. We will then work with our clients to develop new policies/contracts, compensation, communications or other tactics to tamp down the conflict.
